America's Premier metal festival is back this April 28-30, 2017 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland! Now in its ninth year, the annual M3 Rock Festival will be gathering thousands of fans and their favorite heavy metal bands for a celebration of the 80's decadence and glamor. In the past, this internationally renowned festival has attracted fans from six continents, 10 countries, and 40 states.
Starting off with The Official M3 Kix-Off Party on April 28, the festival will be held on two separate stages, each simulcasting the other, so that fans could stay in one seat and watch all the bands as they appear on both stages. The first two days will feature full sets of glam rock and heavy metal hits from bands like Loverboy, Baton Rouge, KIX, Vixen, Cinderella's Tom Keifer, and Bang Tango. Better yet, for the very first time, M3 will expand to a third day to host the new M3 Southern Rock Classic, which will include Black Stone Cherry, Blackfoot, One Nite Stand, Great Train Robbery, and more!
Let's take a look at some of the bands that will be performing this year:
As an all-female American rock band formed in 1973, Vixen saw great commercial success during the late 1980s and early 1990s as part of the California glam metal scene. In the past, they have supported acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, and KISS. After their lead guitarist Jan Kuehnemund passed away in 2013 in a battle with cancer, the three surviving classic line-up members, Janet Gardner, Share Pedersen, and Roxy Petrucci decided to carry on under the Vixen name in honor of Keuhnemund.
Like Vixen, KIX is an American hard rock band that rose to popularity in the early 1980s. Over the years, they have maintained a consistent presence at the M3 Rock Festival at their home state of Maryland. In 2014, the band released Rock Your Face Off, which debuted at #49 on the Billboard Top 200, and at #1 on Amazon Hard Rock and remained there for more than three weeks.
Great Train Robbery
The Baltimore-based band, formed in 1977, is known for their classic smoky Southern sound. They have shared the stage with The Allman Brothers, 38 Special, BTO, Kansas, The Guess Who, Molly Hatchet, and many more. Now in their 39th year, they are working on their ninth album and are hoping for a February release.
